Analysis and comparison of the songs Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen and Hallowed Be Thy Name by Iron Maiden from a postmodern point of view. Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

To begin with an analysis of postmodernist elements in Bohemian Rhapsody, we should point out that the very fact that this is a song written and composed by one of the most popular rock bands of the 20th century, makes it part of pop culture, and therefore a postmodern text. For this study, I have used Rob Pope’s (1998) text “Postructuralism and Postmodernism,” which also analyses the song and its postmodernist elements, as a basis. To enhance the analysis, I have decided to include another song in which I found postmodernist elements (such as binaries, or lack of objectivity) similar to those found in “Bohemian Rhapsody.” This song is called “Hallowed Be thy Name” by the heavy metal band Iron Maiden. The reason why I have chosen to add this song to the analysis of “Bohemian Rhapsody” is to avoid the danger of repeating most of the elements highlighted in Pope’s text. I thought that by adding a further text and finding similarities and some differences, I was going to be able to give some originality to my work.
