Misunderstandings in Intercultural Communication Nowadays a lot of conflicts arise form misunderstandings in Intercultural communication. Not only in politics and business but also in communication between international students. This makes Intercultural Communication an interesting subject for study. In order to clarify the problems which occur between international students I will discuss and explain the causes of these problems. First, I want to give a working definition of culture. It is hard to give a suitable definition of culture for example ¡¥Over 100 definitions of culture have been proposed (e.g., see Krober & Kluckhohn, 1952).¡¦ (Communicating with strangers, Gudykunst & Kim, p.15). Donal Carbaugh defines culture as "a system of expressive practices fraught with feelings, a system of symbols, premises, rules, forms, and the domains and dimensions of mutual meanings associated with these." (Cultures in Conversation, Mahwah, NJ & London: Lawrence Erlbaum Publishers, 2005). He also suggests culture is "a learned set of shared interpretations about beliefs, values......
