Eternal Art Landscape of Robert Smithson Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Using the natural resources on this earth to create art is more natural and skillful than building something new on the land to take its place. This art style is called land art or earth art and was used in the many works of Robert Smithson. Robert Smithson is one of the most influential and original artists who had a major impact on many artists throughout the years. His artwork included many forms like drawings, projects and proposals, sculpture, earthworks, films and critical writing. Spiral Jetty, which is located in the Great Salt Lake, Utah, is his most famous land art. The earthworks were a radical departure from making traditional objects situated in an art gallery setting. The Spiral Jetty embodied one of his goals, which were to place work in the land, rather than situated on the land. Like most artists, he didn’t go by the book. He used non-traditional art materials such as language, mirrors, maps, dump trucks, abandoned quarries, hotels, contractors, and earth to produce his radical sculptures, photographs, films, and earthworks.
