A new type of optical disc system has been developed by a company lead by Sony. The Blu-Ray disc System or BD System employs the latest in optical technology and is set to take the lead over all other formats on the market today.
After the introduction of the recordable CD, people were given the opportunity to store, record and distribute audio files easily and at an affordable price.
With the surge in development of digital technology, a demand for higher storage capacity was set. This demand was answered with the development of the DVD which allowed High-quality SD-video distribution and recording as well as CD backwards compatibility.
The new millennium has seen the introduction of High Definition video and with this once again the bar has been set for larger storage capacity.
