Background on Person Centre Therapy The Person Centered Therapy (henceforth referred to as PCT) is based on humanistic psychological concepts, as articulated by Carl Rogers in the 1940s. “Rogers’s basic assumptions are that people are essentially trustworthy, that they have a vast potential for understanding themselves and resolving their own problems without direct intervention on the therapist’s part” (Corey, 2005). As such the focus of PCT is to have a more personal relationship with the client, encouraging him towards self-directed growth and self-actualisation.
