"Thou shalt not lie." The Ten Commandments states it clearly and simply. Nonetheless, lying happens constantly and embodies various forms. There are exaggerations, little white lies, lies told to avoid punishment, lies spoken to get ahead in the workforce, and many other types of lies. Some simply cannot lie effectively, while others can look their counterpart right in the eye and unwaveringly spread fraudulence. Lying causes some to feel immediately shameful, while others love the "psychological rush" of getting away with a lie. Those addicted to lying and who habitually do so are dubbed pathological liars. A prime example of pathological lying occurred at The New Republic, a liberal minded political magazine, where journalist Stephen Glass fabricated all, or parts of, at least 27 of his 41 stories ("Lies" 2). Stephen Glass, once a young, promising magazine writer wrote freelance articles for esteemed publications such as GQ, Rolling Stone, Harper’s and George (Kurtz 1).
