Is media violence a problem? Through much research I have found that society enjoys violent behavior. People have found it to be entertaining for centuries. In Roman times they held vicious exhibitions in coliseums filled with people ready to watch gladiators kill each other for the sole reason of entertainment. How the media affects society’s acceptance and encouragement of violent behavior in the past and present. The American Academy of Pediatrics reports that by age 18, the average American child will have viewed about 200,000 acts of violence on television alone. The worlds first large scale display of violence was the gladiatorial games, held in 310 BCE by the Campanians. These games symbolized the re-enactment of the Campanians' military success over the Samnites. Marcus and Decimus Brutus held the first Roman gladiatorial games in 246 BCE in honor of their father, Junius Brutus, as a funeral gift for the dead. It was a relatively small affair. From their religious origins, gladiatorial games evolved into defining symbols of Roman culture and became an integral part of that......
