Fourth Dimension Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
In order to talk about the fourth dimension we have to know what a dimension is. A dimension is simply, the property of space. The idea of a fourth dimension only came at the turn of the 20th century, so this theory is still quite modern. The first scientists/mathematicians to come up with this idea were revolutionary thinkers and went against their culture and society, to aid in our knowledge of the world/universe today.
In our universe we can only experience the zero, first, second and third dimensions. Although we can only experience the first three (not including the 0-dimension) we can imagine what the fourth and fifth would be.
A point is a zero-dimensional object. It has no extension in space and no properties. If it were to be measured it would have no length. An example of this is shown below.
An example of a first dimension solid would be a line segment. This line can only be measured by length, although there has to be some thickness to the line so we can see it but ideally this line does not. Example is shown in diagram 1.
