In 1989, the oil tanker Exxon-Valdez ran aground in North Alaska. In the days following, millions of gallons of crude oil were spilled into the ocean. Regardless of the efforts of volunteers to clean up the spill, the surrounding ecosystems as well as wildlife suffered for years to come. Despite the horrific nature of this type of accident it actually accounts for less then 65% of oceanic pollution. Polluted watersheds as well as contaminated run-off are the leading causes of oceanic pollution.
As mountainous regions become more populated, watersheds as well as run-off become more polluted. The people who move into these areas bring with them lawn and garden fertilizers, sewage, and garbage, not to mention the factories that account for huge amounts of industrial discharge. While it may seem grass planted in an evolving area is a good thing it is actually not. For the grass to grow well, most believe it must be fertilized with unnatural and unhealthy plant fertilizers. These fertilizers then run down irrigation ditches, and other water carrying devices, and then into the groun......
