The Canterbury Tales
The Canterbury Tales was a story with a variety of characters that all have a commonality. That commonality is not living up to the standards of their positions in their estate. They all want more than what they have, most of which is out of reach. These characters are very selfish and self-centered. As long as they get what they want, they are satisfied with their lives, even if does not mean fulfilling their duties as their positions in the knightly, religious, and working estates.
In the knightly estate, the squire does not live up to his standard of being in the knightly estate. He is the twenty year old son of the knight. He was a very good looking fellow who was as lusty as the month of May (2052). The text states, Still hoping by his exploits in such places to stand the better in his ladys graces (2052). The Squire only wanted to become a knight to impress the ladies. Therefore, he did not live up to the standards of a true knight.
