Dan Rather v. CBS and Viacom Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

This week former news anchor and anchor on the CBS Evening News, Dan Rather, filed suit again CBS saying that company deliberately breached his contract by removing him from the program, and that the company committed fraud when it commissioned a biased and incomplete investigation on the flawed broadcast regarding President Bush’s guard service. It lays a claim of libel, stating that the process in which CBS removed Rather from the program, “seriously damaged his reputation.” The main legal problem at the center of this case is Breach of contract and liable, purposely performed by CBS against Mr. Rather. In turn Mr. Rather, the plaintiff, has filed a lawsuit of $20 million in compensation for the breach and another $50million in punitive damages for the liable/ damage performed against his reputation. This case would be classified as a matter of civil law. The reason for this is a private party, Dan Rather, has filed suit against another party, CBS in Superior Court. The government or the state is not bringing this case forth, thus it does not fall into the category of a cr......
