I recall being in third grade when my teacher told us, Islam is not just a religion, it is a way of life. I started to ponder to see if I could find a clearer explanation to that sentence. The next minute though I was back to having conversations with friends and thinking about when recess would be. It wasnt long until that popped up in my mind again. Islam has always been all around me. At the age of 5, my mom hired a teacher who would come to our house to teach me and my sister how to read the Quran. At 8, I learned how to pray fully by myself, bowing my head down to the Lord gave me a different complete feeling even at a young age. I caught on fast because of the excitement in me but never followed with the five prayers of the day. I remember praying after a whole month or so and not being able to because I had forgotten how to.
Being in an American country has definitely affected my understanding of my faith, I know I appreciate my religion more than anything. Islam teaches me to stick to the right things and detach myself from the worldly materialistic things in life. I......
