Words With Thematic Significance Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In any novel, short story, or poem there are usually words that have a certain significance that connects or portrays the theme of the piece of literature. In the story “The County Husband” by John Cheever, Francis Weed is the main character and his last name, Weed, shows that he is somewhat of an unwanted thing. Another character in the story is Mrs. Wrightson and her name, sounding like the word “right”, connects to the fact that she is the head of the community who everybody thought was always right. Julia Weed, Francis’ wife in the story was said to have premature white hairs, showing maybe that their perfect little world they live in wasn’t so perfect after all. The name of their suburban town is Shady Hill, and the word Shady could show that it may have an illusion of happiness and control, but really does not. The word conceal used by Julia Weed plays a very important part in this story.
