§ The old management problem of too much diversification too fast could arise when VerticalNet have the desire to own a wide-coverage portfolio of services (including e-commerce storefronts, online auctions, electronic marketplace and catalogs, etc.) Its simply too good to be true and too optimistic, because having only the first-mover advantage will not be enough for success in such fast changing and infant environment.
