Tent Embassy Protests Speech Summary Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The Aboriginal Tent Embassy is a highly controversial, semi permanent crowd claiming to represent the political rights of the Indigenous Australians. It is made up of a large group of activists, signs and tents that are on the lawn of Old Parliament House in ACT. It’s not considered an official embassy by the Australian Government but most people see it as one anyway. The Embassy was established in 1972 on Australia in response to McMahon’s Government’s refusal to recognize aboriginal land rights. It was also mentioned that a new general purpose lease for Aboriginals which would be conditional upon their ‘intention and ability to make a reasonable economic and social use of land’ and that it would exclude all rights they had to mineral and forest rights. The embassy had existed irregularly since then, and continuously since 1992. Some of the people who were involved in the initial establishment were Gary Foley, Chicka Dixon, Pearl Gibbs and Paul Coe. In February 1972 the Aboriginal Tent Embassy presented a list of demands to the Parliament. Their demands included: 1......
