To address the problem of temporary intrinsics, I will use the following example in which the girl called by the name “Elizabeth” before she walked into the hair salon will be referred to as “Elizabeth A”, and the girl called by the name “Elizabeth” after leaving the salon will be referred to as “Elizabeth B”. Elizabeth A was a girl with platinum-blonde hair that extended to the middle of her back. Elizabeth A walked into the Beehive Salon in Boise and sat in the barber’s chair for an hour. Elizabeth B left the salon with chestnut-brown hair that barely reached her chin. The long, blonde-haired property possessed by Elizabeth A is not possessed by Elizabeth B. Similarly, the short, brown-haired property that is evident in Elizabeth B is not shared by Elizabeth A. The rule of indiscernibility of identicals—also known as Leibniz’s Law—states that an object is identical to another object if and only if they have all of their properties in common.
