Monetary policy is one the two ways the government can impact the economy. By influencing the effective cost of money, the Federal Reserve can affect the amount of money that is spent by consumers and businesses. Monetary Policy The point of implementing policy through raising or lowering interest rates is to affect people and firms' demand for goods and services.
