I sat on the old brown creaky dock overlooking the calm peaceful lake and the sandy beach of Loon Lake. The dock is about seventy-five feet in length and is close to four feet in width. It feels as rough as sand paper in some spots but for the majority it is smooth. Of course, there are patches that can give a person splinters and spots where the dock sticks up slightly. The first thing that struck my attention was the heat of the sun. The bright, whitish-yellow rays beat down through the tall birch trees. The trees were almost tall enough to act as an umbrella from the sun, but unless I was perfectly in sync with the trees, I would not get much shade. I was beginning to feel as though I had spent an hour in a sauna since I had not altered the position of my body. The sun reflecting off the water and directly into my eyes blinded me momentarily. The reflected sun shimmered off the lake, giving a sense that the water was almost completely still. The old oak tree, which was always full of little green caterpillars, stood by the boathouse and reflected a mirror like image in......
