The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is a government agency that was created to prevent employment discrimination. Discrimination can be any bias that is based on race, color, sex, national origin, religion, age or other disabilities. The EEOC is responsible for overseeing several federal laws including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) just to name a few. (Dealers Edge 2006) According to the EEOCs website, many steps must be followed when completing the discrimination process as well as the civil litigation process. We will examine the discrimination complaint process and discuss the path John will take when filing his complaint against his organization.
The first step in the EEOC complaint process is for the employee to file their alleged complaint with their local EEOC agency. The complaint must be filed within 180 days of the alleged violation. The employer will be notified of the alleged charges and the complaint within 10 days by the EEOC. ......
