Summary/Analysis of The Christian Paradox In Bill McKibben’s, The Christian Paradox, published in August 2005, he talks about Christians in America. McKibben uses various statistics to inform the reader about Christianity in America. According to McKibben, 85 percent of Americans call themselves Christians. He says that “only 40 percent of Americans can name more than four of the Ten Commandments, and a scant half can cite any four of the authors of the Gospels.” McKibben states that 75 percent of these Christians can admit that they pray to God every day, 33 percent of them admit that they go to church every week. He also mentions that 75 percent of Americans believe that “God helps those who help themselves.” According to McKibben, this idea is not biblical, because the Bible states that you should love your neighbor. With this information present, McKibben states the paradox: “America is simultaneously the most professedly Christian of the developed nations and the least Christian in its behavior.” Many Americans claim to be Christians, but they don’t show it......
