In seeking the equality of men and women in society, we come across many obstacles. The sexism and objectification that women encounter daily as well as the division of labor in the workplace and in the home are some of the primary obstacles encountered. Most parents who both have full time jobs require the outside help of a hired hand to watch after the kids and assist with domestic duties such as cooking and cleaning. But why is it that nine point nine of these hired guns are women and not men? Feminists say that it is the result of a male dominated, chauvinistic society - that man has relegated the woman into an in inferior position of status. The question that arises from a philosophical standpoint is this: who says that domestic duty is lower on the totem pole than working outside of the home? Yes, the salaries of these jobs might reflect this notion, but that is only true in some cases and is becoming less and less true.
