Between the years of 1880-1920 millions of immigrants from all over the world flooded the gates of America (MP 116). Their reasons for choosing America included the attractions of both the promise of economic opportunity and, for many, anticipated relief from religious and political prosecution (MP 116). Once they got here they immediately searched for work, believing that this was their chance to make something of themselves so that they could provide for their family and live a good life. The goals of working for good wages and freedom in daily activities were priorities for immigrants.
