Macbeth and the Destruction of Ones Moral Conscience Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Within his play, Macbeth, Shakespeare uses dark settings, coinciding with the actions of characters, to describe various changes of thoughts and progressing levels of self corruption and the destruction of one’s moral conscience. The way Shakespeare plays on character flaws, and the human race’s ambitious nature, suggests that he believes power-hungry individuals will go to great lengths in order to preserve their high status position. The original Thane of Cawdor, a seemingly insignificant pawn when compared to the overall workings in Macbeth, gives great insight to what lies ahead for those seeking control. In order to obtain a grain of influence, he resorts to aiding an enemy’s defenses. By committing this act of treachery, the Thane ensures his demise. At this moment, Shakespeare has already begun to inch his way towards the idea that those outwardly trusting authority figures, will do a number of morally compromising acts in hopes of maintaining their title.
