"The knife Thrower" People have always had an urge to watch or participate in extreme events. People like watching what is dangerous, outrageous and unexplored. It appeals to us, because we are both scared and drawn at the same time. The Knife Thrower, written by Steven Millhauser deals with this topic. In the short story The Knife Thrower a group of friends are going to see a famous knife thrower, because he is known for scaring both his assistant, volunteers from the audience and people from the stands. For if Hensch was an acknowledged master of his art, it was also true that he bore with him certain disturbing rumours p.1, line 3. The group already know that there is something mysterious about this Hensch, the knife thrower, but this does not stop them from attending his performance, in fact that is what grabs them. They know that it could be dangerous because of these rumours, and they are in fact ashamed of going there, but they still feel a hunger to see the great master in action. The extreme of seeing someone getting wounded with a knife, is just too exiting......
