The growing desire to become thin is an epidemic that is being perpetuated by the media everyday. Young girls are steeping to such unhealthy means to lose weight that it is becoming difficult to determine what is a severe disorder and what is just a phase. Both Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa have the same underlying cause: low self-esteem; and both have disastrous effects. But, on the other hand, they both differ in the steps leading up to the disorder. While anorexia is a conscious decision to stop eating in order to control their food intake; bulimia is a lack of self-control followed by extreme guilt and a need to purge. These disorders are what are gripping girls by the clavicle and ruining lives equally but could not be further apart in symptoms. Anorexia Nervosa is the decision to refrain from eating in order to achieve ones sense of the perfect body, which is most often, an emaciated one.
