The Andromeda Strain, directed by Robert Wise, based on the book by Michael Crichton, explores the idea of life on other planets. This 1971 thriller shows how a deadly virus that attached itself to a U.S. satellite, wipes out a small desert town, and four scientists are sent to investigate. The film is set-up like a documentary, and dates and times are presented on the screen periodically which emphasizes this feeling.
Officials receive warning that a U.S. space satellite crashed in a desert town, and now all of the townÂ’s inhabitants are dead. These unfortunate officials die also, as they radio this alarming find. A red alert is soon issued by the U.S. military personnel involved. The satellite was part of Wildfire, a classified government space-exploration project and now four scientists, previously assembled to analyze the satellite's data, are immediately summoned to Wildfire's top-secret desert headquarters.
Now the four scientists are introduced, and through this lengthy middle section, their characters are somewhat developed. There is Dr. Stone (Arthur Hill), Dr. Dutton ......
