Comparison and Contrast Essay
Bishop anticipated her transition into an element through an immersion that might have proved dangerous but in fact opened the way to a source of material that would feed her poems for decades to come. This dream concerns an encounter with a fish went fishing often while she lived there. In her dream, the fish is about 3 ft long, large scaled, metallic like a gold fish only a beautiful rose color. By comparison she follows the kindly fish, who glances around every now and then with his big eyes to see if she is following. Dreamer and fish had met at the margin of land and sea where he was gathering this sampling of air to be used for some sort of celebration. In certain of her later poems, the poet allows herself to be guided by an natural spirit into an alien but enticing region. To steady herself and sanction her vagrancy, she makes a meticulous record of what she sees.
