Epilepsy Epilepsy was one of the first brain disorders. Epilepsy was mentioned over 3000 years ago in ancient Babylon. Epilepsy is also known as a disorder that can cause seizures. If a person has had at least two seizures that were not caused by a known medical condition like alcohol withdrawal or extremely low blood sugar they are usually diagnosed with having a form of Epilepsy or being an Epileptic. Seizures can be provoked even if you arent Epileptic. Some of the ways that a seizure can be provoked by Head injurys, Drugs, Infection, Metabolic Substances, Withdrawal from drugs, Television, and Video Games. Seizures are sudden changes in behavior that result from excessive electrical activity in the brain. Seizures are sometimes preceded by an Aura. Aura: is a warning to let the person know that they may be having a seizure. Seizures can last from a few seconds to status epilepticus which means between 3-5 minutes.
