Sociolinguistics studies the relation between social and linguistic variation. To break it down a little further, linguistics is the study of the structure and development of a particular language and its relationships to other languages. Social being factors of class, ethnicity, age and sex. Sociolinguistics deals with how different type of people deal with and use their own or a different type of language; vice versa. No language is a uniform system in which everyone talks just like everyone else. (Kottak 94) As this quote says, not all of us speak the same language, not all of us communicate the same way, and not all of us are a same people. Sociolinguistics is just the study of how a different type of people, communicate with each other and how we interpret one another.
