Chu Hsis Views on Heian Japan Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

During the Song Dynasty, Chu Hsi became one of the most significant Neo-Confucian scholars. He contributed to Confucian philosophies by adapting ideas from competing religions into his form of Confucianism. Zhu Xi was also influential in Japan, where his followers were called the Shushigaku School. During a recent event, Chu Hsi has managed to read about the private and public worlds of Heian Japan. During this period, it was when Confucianism and other Chinese influences were at their height in Japanese history. According to the literatures written by Chu Hsi, he does not agree with all the ideas from the Heian period but he is impressed with various facets of Heian life. Chu Hsi is especially fascinated to court politics, religious worship, women as cultural creators, and interactions between aristocrats and commoners. He believes that these elements are rather different from that of the Song Dynasty. As a scholar of the Song Dynasty, Chu Hsi shows little interest in court politics.
