Monsters: Strangers in Society? Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

From a young age, children learn not to talk to strangers. Eventually, these children grow up, and encounter many strangers who they are required to talk to. These strangers come in all types, good and bad, and some downright monstrous. These “monsters” are reflected in stories such as Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, William Shakespeare’s The Tempest and Macbeth, Geoffrey Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales, and the anonymously written Beowulf. The authors’ respective monsters portray the horrors of modern society. Dracula and Macbeth, from their self-titled stories, represent the worst type of monster: the cold-blooded killer. Just as men (and women) continue to do, these characters kill others for personal gratification. Macbeth is highly representative of a serial killer, but the type that gets to know his victims first, then goes in for the kill. He kills Duncan, the king, who is staying at the Macbeth home, and then he kills Macduff’s family, who he does not know personally, but through Macduff. Eventually, Macbeth is killed by Macduff himself, ......
