In the short story A Pair of Tickets Jing-Mei has half sisters that she finally meets after her mother passes. The title tells a lot about the story. The Pair of Tickets are the tickets which Jing-Mei and her father have to go to China. The title symbolizes the twins and the reason why she is going to China. Her mother always wanted to reunite with her long lost daughters and Jing-Mei feels that if she goes to China she would be able to fulfill her mothers dream for her. The Pair of Tickets and the twins also symbolize the Chinese in her which she feels she does not possess.
After all these years Jing-Mei and her father are finally visiting China. The Pair of Tickets symbolizes that. Jing-Meis father is excited to return to China and reunite with his aunt whom he has not seen since he was ten years old. Jing-Mei looks at him and says he looks like a little boy, so innocent and eager to go back to China.
