Filming of Macbeth: A History Presentation Reflection Paper
Macbeth was originally a play performed on stage. However, over the last hundred years, it has been featured in many films. Each film has the same general idea according to the play written by William Shakespeare, but may have some slight or great differences depending on the director and the background of the time of the film. A few examples of the backgrounds I saw were the time period of the film (color and sound), the directors current personal situation at the time of filming (Roman Polinskis loss) and the country of the setting (Australia, U.S., U.K.).
In 1908, J. Stuart Blackton directed one of the earliest on-screen productions of Macbeth. Back then, movies were silent and in black in white. This production was no different. It was released on April 19, 1908. There werent many actors in this movie but the main ones were William V. Ranous (Macbeth), Paul Panzer (Macduff), Charles Kent (Duncan), Louise Carver (Lady Macbeth), and a few others with very small roles in the film.
