Kokoro - coping with the changes of a modern Japan Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Kokoro, written by a Japanese scholar, wrote this compelling novel as a well established novelist to cope with the changes of a modern Japan. Taking place during the Meiji Period (1868-1912), Soskei write about a life companionship during a time when the nation was under great pressure to become apart of the “westernized world”. The novel is broken into three parts that each has specific signicanace to the narrator. The narrator, Sensei and K (indirectly) are the main character of the book. The author tells of his first sighting of this mysterious man while swimming routinely in Kamakura. He describes this man with great deal and obviously shows some type of attraction to this man. calling him S, not possible to be true. Sensei is a man described as dark, gloomy and lonely, but the narrator sees it as a cry for immediate attention. He strikes out to befriend the older man who he would never realize the lessons he actually learned from him. Only socializing with his wife and narrator, Sensei portrays a many that’s hermitic, life greatly impacted the emotions of his wife and narrat......
