Family Matters People can’t choose their own family. Or at least this is a topic which author Christina Stead writes about in her novel The Man Who Loved Children. In this novel based on many family issues the story focuses around the Pollit family. Sam Pollit, the father, is very ambitious and opinionated. The main thing he loves in the world are children, especially his own. After being married twice and having six children (and soon a seventh), Sam thinks he knows everything, from women to politics to human nature. The daughter of Sam’s first wife, Louisa, is full of hate of her self, but is still very smart with many twisted thoughts going through her head. His second wife, Henrietta, despises him and they are constantly fighting. Henrietta has had her back and her heart broken by Sam. She can’t stand anything that goes on around the Pollit household and as she continues to live with her own family the more she turns into a crazy, old woman.
