Hamlets Melancholy Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Throughout the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Hamlet experienced many dreary trials. These trials have been interpreted by different people and a myriad of reasons have been concluded as to why Hamlet acted the way he did. Though there are numerous reasons for his procrastination and indecisiveness, melancholy seems to fit the best. From the moment his father died to the last act of his own death, Hamlet is plagued with doubts, depression, and unhappiness. Stated by Don Nardo in his interpretation, “His father, whom he idolized, has been snatched away from him; he feels alienated by his mother and uncle; and his relationship with his girlfriend is falling apart.” (75). These factors, along with others, trusted Hamlet into a state of uneasiness and created a melancholy that caused his downfall. Clearly, it can be deducted that his father was the central figure that created and enhanced Hamlet’s melancholy. Hamlet must have had a strong relationship for his father.
