Fra Luca Bartolomeo de Pacioli was born around the year of 1445. He was born in Borgo Sansepolcro, Tuscany, located in the heart of Italy. He greatly attributed to the accounting system through all of his work which includes the double-entry accounting system, balance sheet, income statement, the use of journals and ledgers, year-end closing entries, and the trial balance. All of those methods are still used today in the accounting world. Throughout much of his younger life, Pacioli spent a great amount of time inside of a studio and workshop. Here, Pacioli learned from Piero della Francesca, the owner of the studio. Soon, Pacioli decided to move away from his hometown and travel to Venice. In Venice, Pacioli was chosen to tutor the three sons of Antonio Rompiasi, a very wealthy merchant. He wrote his very first book, which was on arithmetic. Once Ludovico Sforza became duke of Milan, he requested Pacioli come to Milan and teach mathematics at his court. Here, Pacioli met up with Leonardo da Vinci and they quickly became friends.
