In Monster: The Autobiography of an L.A. Gang Member, Kody Scott tells the true story of his life in the gangs. He committed his first murder at the tender age of eleven to get initiated in the Crips. There was no looking back for Kody after that day. There was an incident were he and some of his gang members beat up somebody beyond recognition, after the police officer said whoever did this is a Monster. The name “Monsta” stuck with Kody thereafter. He worked on keeping that name by becoming a monster. He was beginning to get well known by all the gangs around him. He was on his way to becoming an Original Gangster (O.G), which was the highest honor for a “banger”. He spent most of his teen years in correctional facilities which also helped his reputation throughout the gangs. It finishes up with his transformation into becoming a member of the New Afrikan Independence Movement, which led him to slowly withdraw from gang activity.
