Charlotte Bronte wrote Jane Eyre, which was a revolutionary novel and broke the barriers of social expectations. It was written in 1847, having an impact on literature and has made Bronte an iconic writer. Charlotte Bronte was born in 1816, after her mother died she lived a childhood of independence that is used to look after her siblings. She was a very independent child who had to use her own imagination to entertain herself. She lived in bleak, miserable surroundings, this is mirrored in the novel. Charlotte Bronte has used her own childhood to write about a girl, Jane Eyre, who has lost both parents and is lonely in a miserable world; Jane is alone and her parents have died; she is left alone in a house where she entertains herself with her intelligence and imagination. Jane Eyre is a very confident girl who sticks up for herself to her aunty who acts as a dictator and in her auntie’s eyes is very rude and unappreciative.
