A Life and Death Situation: Euthanasia and Physician-Assisted Suicide Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

My dog turned sixteen on August 12, 2006. I had chosen him; I had walked up to his kennel and pointed to him, and chosen him. I was five years old and I had made a life-changing decision, now, sixteen years later, I am making another one. Toby is blind now --- cataracts and glaucoma. The pressure on his eyes causes him to be in indelible pain. He is arthritic and has a tumor the size of a youth football under his right front leg. He still walks and interacts a little, but usually not on purpose because he cannot hear either. He operates on memory and navigates by his olfactory sensors which makes it difficult when he attempts to make his way from our back door and down the three steps to the backyard so that he can relieve himself. Because the trip (pun intended) from the door to the backyard is so frightening to him he has taken to urinating and defecating on the kitchen floor or wherever he happens to be.
