Sedition Acts of 1789 Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The Sedition Acts of 1789 resulted in a divided country which saw Federalists and Democratic-Republicans were going head to head with each other. This caused bitter controversy on many issues including, foreign affairs, freedom of the press, and the role of the executive branch. Conclusively, the Sedition Acts of 1789 had a direct correlation with the two political parties that existed in the United States of America. The first issue splitting the parties dealt with foreign affairs and America’s relationship with England and France. In Document J, written by John Adams in an address to Congress, he stated that the French were dividing the people of the United States up. The French were doing this by suggesting that the American government did not have the people’s best interest in mind and held different principles from them. By doing this the French were attempting to produce divisions which Adams said would be fatal to our peace.
