Great Expectations is a Bildungsroman because the reader follows Pip through his life exploring different events that older Pip realised to be of importance The visit to Satis House, Chapter 8. Many of the themes Charles Dickens explores that are common to Bildungsromans, such as love. We learn about the theme of love when Pip falls in love with Estella. We notice this when at first notices that Estella is pretty then the story goes on to a part when Pip beats another boy up and Estella allows him to kiss her.
