Ode to a Nightingale: Commentary The poem “Ode to a Nightingale” reflects Keats’ love for nightingales and their melodious voice. In this poem we see the pain and anguish experienced by the poet along with joy and happiness while giving a tribute to the nightingale. We are able to see through the eyes of the poet and we try to experience a similar bliss in our lives, but fail to do so most of the time. Let us now see how Keats is efficiently able to convey his feelings and thoughts with regard to the nightingale and what importance does the nightingale play in the life of the poet John Keats focuses on immediate and concrete sensations to make the reader figure out a conclusion or an abstraction based on the poem. As readers we follow the development or a lack of development in the ‘dreamer’ from the initial sentence about the nightingale and the final sentence about the experience. The most obvious importance of the nightingale in the life of Keats is that he is able to achieve that ‘bliss’ or pleasure from the melodious and sweet singing of the nightingale.
