A View From The Bridge Coursework Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In the play it is Eddie’s concept of manliness, which controls the action throughout the play. Eddie thinks that a man should be aggressive, argumentative, controlling and also tough to those who are not as brave and strong as him. Marco has the same idea as Eddie about manhood. He believes that a man should be in charge of the house and provide for his family. Also, they should be powerful. Rodolfo thinks that a man should cook, sew and sing to help his female members and they should be free to do what they want. His idea is totally different from Eddie’s. Eddie doesn’t like Rodolfo because he does most of the things that a woman does, he does everything to humiliate and bully him. Most of his anger is targeted at Rodolfo. Evidence for that is he says to Alfieri, “the guy ain’t right” because he does all the stereotypically feminine things such as singing, sewing and cooking. He also repeats similar opinion to his wife Beatrice when he says, “I don’t like his whole way”. He is jealous of Rodolfo and he doesn’t want to let go of Catherine especially knowing he is giving ......
