Rhetorical Analysis of President Bush’s 9/11 Address On September 11, 2001 terrorists united with Al Qaeda and led by Osama bin Laden and attacked the United States of America. Four planes were hijacked and as a result, 3,047 people were killed as planes were flown into the World Trade Center Towers and the Pentagon Building. That figure does not include the many that were injured, as well as friends and family affected by this tragedy. President George W. Bush’s Address to the Nation on September 20, 2001 was televised and viewed by American People as he spoke from the Oval Office. Throughout this speech the President encourages the nation to unite and stay strong after the terrorist attacks that had occurred on that day. This speech is not purely informative, it also has a purpose to comfort and reassure the public. It is obvious that this is a very sensitive situation to handle, and considering that President Bush was delivering this address only nine days after the attacks occurred, there were still many facts that needed to be found or sorted out.
