Wellenreuthers discusses that there were two separate concepts of acculturation concerning the Delaware people. One voice was White Eyes and the other being Netawatwees and then whether or not either of these ideas came to be.
White Eyes becomes the chief speaker in 1774. The Delaware and Shawnee side with the French in 1730 and over the next three decades the three clans of Wolf, Turtle and Turkey that belong to the Delaware Nation are living apart in different settlements due to the Seven Years War. The Turtle clan wanted all three clans to settle closer to each other in the hopes that other Delaware people would come and join them (p 142).
In 1774 the Shawnee and the Delaware had concerns about the land available to them and the issue of the white settlers moving into their territory.
