The statement “ Literature is a true reflection of it’s time “ reflects the Victorian Era consisting of the duality of human nature. Every human has good and evil characteristics, but it’s about how their portrayed. In the novel “ Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde “ by Robert Louis Stevenson, human duality is displayed through the perspective of a prominent man who has a reckless side which later becomes known as Mr. Hyde. In the poem “ Richard Cory” by E. A Robinson, duality is mirrored through the theme that not every person is perceived as who they appear to be ; meaning that looks are deceiving. Both works of literature reflect the time of the Victorian Age where people were judged on their actions and characteristics. In the novel “ Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde “ by Robert Louis Steveson the theme of duality is present throughout the plot. Dr. Jekyll the protagonist is a well- established man with an alter-ego that affects his daily life.
