A view shared by many Canadians is that biological race is part of the natural order (Anderson, 1996: 404). Canadians often pride themselves on the equality and multiculturalism Canada has worked so hard to obtain. However, it can be argued that race does not exist; and that instead it is socially constructed, rather than biologically determined. Secondly, the evidence also shows that racial inequality does exist in Canada. Racial minorities continue to occupy disadvantaged positions (Lawrence, 2004: 72) with Canada�s First Nations population facing the worst racism among all minority groups (72). Inequality for Aboriginal Canadians exists in many areas of their lives, though this essay it will be clear that the education system is one of the main contributors to this problem. Without formal education, one has little hope of increasing social and cultural capital within society, (Moriss, 2002: 186) which in turn keeps this group economically and occupationally disadvantaged.
