To Kill a Mockingbird essay Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The Scottsboro boys trial influenced the book To Kill a Mockingbird in many ways. There are many similarities between the trial and the book, but there are also some differences. Racism played a huge roll in both the book and the real trial. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird the only defendant accused of rape was Tom Robinson. However in the Scottsboro boys trial there were nine men accused of raping white women. These nine men and Tom Robinson were African American and of course the accusers were poor white women. Of these nine men were Charlie Weems, Clarence Norris, Ozie Powell, Olin Montgomery, Willie Roberson, Haywood Patterson, Andy and Roy Wright, and Eugine Williams. Many of these men and Tom Robinson had medical problems which made them incapable of rape and battery, in which they were allegedly accused of. The Accusers in the Scottsboro boys trial were Ruby Bates and her friend Victoria Price. In the book there was only one accuser and her name was Mayella Ewell.
