Dead, outdated, idealized beliefs about duty and morality are the ghosts that haunt the characters in this iconoclastic exposition on Victorian morality. Mrs. Helene Alving is a widow who reveals to her pastor all of the abominable debauchery that her husband committed, and that she kept in secret, throughout their marriage, and past the days of his death. Pastor Manders had been a long time friends to her and her late husband, Captain Alving, and had advised her to stay with him, despite his incontinence. She did so not because her family wished it due to Captain Alvings wealth and respectable position, but because she was at the time in love with Manders, who told her it was her duty to marry Captain Alving, and that her love was needed to reform Him. But her husbands lasciviousness continued his entire lif......
